"A Canadian man who described himself as a pastor was sentenced Monday to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl he claims was his wife."

Really??

"A man pulled over on a highway bridge, took his 4-year-old daughter out of the car and dropped her over the side to her death Thursday in Australia's second-largest city, police said."

"Whitehall police did not say how the man, woman and children, ages 8 and 5, died and did not release their names. The children were home from school Wednesday for a snow day.

"The deaths have "the markings of a murder-suicide" in a low-crime area to the northwest of Columbus, Sgt. Daniel Kelso said."

"Authorities used saws to extricate the body Wednesday afternoon, the Detroit Free Press and WDIV-TV said. Investigators said they think the body was there for several months. The man's name and the cause of his death were unknown.

...

"Elsewhere in the United States a woman froze to death in a remote cabin in Montana. Her common-law husband, suffering from hypothermia and starving, was found propped up against her body, with an array of weapons spread in a half circle in front of him, authorities said."

Freezing Death

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28900221/

"When neighbors went inside Marvin Schur's house, the windows were frosted over, icicles hung from a faucet, and the 93-year-old World War II veteran lay dead on the bedroom floor in a winter jacket over four layers of clothing.

"He froze to death — slowly and painfully, authorities say — days after the electric company installed a power-limiting device because of more than $1,000 in unpaid bills."

I don't how many times I've wished I'd written a letter like that - brilliant.

Air travel is dead.

The governor said that Oprah's name came up as a potential successor to Obama in the Senate. "She seemed to be someone who had helped Barack Obama in a significant way to become president," Blagojevich said. Blagojevich added that "she had a much broader bully pulpit than a lot of senators."

What if it Doesn't Work?

Circulation in macroeconomicsImage via WikipediaThis is something I worry about... The fact is we've never had a situation quite like this before. No one really know the correct course, not for sure, it's only economic theory.

"If his $825 billion economic stimulus plan is not successful, economists and investors warn that a stock market slide could be more like a 4,000-point stock market crash.

"In the last year, two other sets of parents, both in Oregon, were criminally charged because they had not sought medical care for their children on the ground that to do so would have violated their belief in faith healing. One couple were charged with manslaughter in the death of their 15-month-old daughter, who died of pneumonia last March. The other couple were charged with criminally negligent homicide in the death of their 16-year-old son, who died from complications of a urinary tract infection that was severely painful and easily treatable."

Idiots.
If only there were some way to make stupidity a crime, it would go a long way toward getting rid of religion. And to think Oregon has helmet laws, and no-smoking laws, and yet "god told me to let my child die" still gets a pass...

He similarly told a policeman that "God said she wasn't driving right, and she needed to be taken off the road." The Lord does work in mysterious ways."

The HDTV Change

"President-elect Barack Obama is urging Congress to postpone the Feb. 17 switch from analog to digital television broadcasting, arguing that too many Americans who rely on analog TV sets to pick up over-the-air channels won't be ready."

DELAY?!
Why? Switch it already!!

I really have ask myself why on earth there is so much misunderstanding in the public about what the HDTV change means. It is staggering what people insist on believing NO MATTER HOW MUCH FACT IS SHOVED DOWN THEIR THROATS - that everyone has to get cable, that everyone has to buy a new TV... On and on, nonsense as far as the eye can see.

But after all this is the same population that elected Bush, twice.

Idiots...

"One of the most noticeable conclusions is that downloading and buying are not mutually exclusive: downloaders on average buy just as much music as non-downloaders, but they buy more DVD's and games then people who don't download."

Everytime a new medium is invented, media companies spend years fighting, only to latter reap more profits than ever from the very same technology. They've been doing this since player-pianos rolls and disks were first marketed. And they will never, ever learn.
